What is lampworking? TOP
Lampworking is the term used to refer to melting glass in a flame using a gas burner or torch, originally oil burning lamps were used. The glass is wound around a steel rod called a mandrel to form a bead and then carefully cooled.

What is annealing? TOP
Annealing is the process of controlled cooling of the hot glass bead to relieve any stress that may have built up while it was being made. My beads go directly from the torch to the kiln and soak at the correct annealing temperature for a couple of hours before cooling slowly to room temperature.

How fragile are lampwork beads? TOP
I make my beads with the utmost care and regard for their durability but they are not indestructable and can break in the same way that anything else made of glass can. All glass beads should therefore be handled with due care.
